This Used to Worry Me.

I used to fret over this fray caused by years of getting in and out of my car. I tried a seat cover, random cloths, adjusting how I would sit down, looked into buying a new seat, checked costs for reupholstery, etc.

It really bugged me that my car which was once brand new, was “showing its age”. The wear and tear of life was starting to appear and it frightened me. It reminded me of my own wear and tear that I must slowly and subtly be showing, although I hardly believe it.

Yet, is that not what things are for? To be used? They exist for a reason. We marvel at the patina of copper and brass, yet run to face creams and serums to reverse our own aging. Sometimes the most beautiful items, places, people are those which accepted their fate and continue to smile no matter the end, whenever it may come.

Yes, take care of your “things”, but do not become a slave to preservation.
